The US Virgin Islands Just Got a Floating Food Truck

There’s a newcomer in St. John and they come bearing tacos. In the dazzling turquoise waters of Round Bay, hungry boaters and beachgoers alike are swimming up to the bright green “floating food truck” for gourmet tacos and grabbing a seat at the swim-up bar for $12, 16-ounce craft cocktails as delicious as they are eye-catching. Its official name, Lime Out, comes from its sister establishment, St. John favorite, Lime Inn.

Food trucks, tacos and cocktails are each worthy of celebration on their own, so you can imagine the excitement around Lime Out’s March 2019 opening.

The Floating Taco Bar in Round Bay, St. John

St. John locals Dane Tarr, Richard Baranowski and Dylan Buchalter banded together to create Lime Out with the idea to provide food for charter boats and boaters anchored on East End with no food options in sight. With the help of Lime Inn, where “happy hour starts in the morning,” Lime Out became a reality. Lime Inn prepares the food for Lime Out and serves as the dishwashing station for the floating bar’s dishes.

Sustainability at Lime Out

The food boat owners are hyper-sensitive to the community’s environmental concerns surrounding Lime Out, and they have taken every possible precaution to ensure Lime Out does not harm the ocean or ecosystems of St. John. The solar-powered restaurant is 100% straw free while using biodegradable food containers, recyclable menus and reusable cups (that you can purchase!). Sewage is not a concern as the single camping toilet on board is only used by staff and emptied at the owners’ homes.

More Than Just Tacos & Tequila

Lime Out offers the ultimate beach day lunch, snack or libation. Everything is over-the-top on the menu (would you expect anything less?) and for food, you have mouthwatering options like Ceviche Tacos, Green Curry Chicken Tacos, Surf + Turf Tacos and even Vegan Tacos. But what’s lunch on vacation without a craft cocktail or drink? You have a surprising amount to choose from with bottles of bubbly, wine, shots and signature drinks like The Danger: “thai chili infused 100% agave tequila, fresh watermelon juice, fresh lime juice and pineapple simple syrup.” Yum!
