7 Things to Love About Sandals Montego Bay

Sandals Montego Bay, opened in 1983, was the first of what would prove to be an immensely successful all-inclusive resort model. Parent company Sandals International, a home-grown Jamaican company, now operates 16 resorts throughout the Caribbean.

Even though Sandals has grown beyond the confines of the original resort property, it’s often fun to visit the seminal location in search of what exactly it was that drove a brand’s success. You’ll find that, even decades after Sandals Montego Bay welcomed its first guest, there’s still plenty of draw. Even during a recent visit in December, 2018, it was apparent that the property is still a work in progress as Sandals continues to add facilities.

Here’s a quick list of things to love about Sandals Montego Bay.

1

White-Sand Beach

The beach, of course, is a focal point for the resort. Supple white sand slopes gently into warm aquamarine water—tranquil thanks to the fringing reef that keeps the surf break some distance out to sea. Loungers are first-come-first-served, but those wanting to secure prime spots can reserve a thatched over-water cabana for an additional fee.

Butler Service

Top-tier rooms include a butler, who assists in packing and unpacking, restaurant and activity reservations, and even serving drinks and lunch by the beach or pool. Butlers can also serve dinner in rooms or on guest patios from the menus at any of the resort restaurants.

New Over-the-Water Bar

Latitudes Bar is a new addition to Sandals Montego Bay, but it’s already proven popular. The circular bar offers 360-degree views of the water and one of the best sunset vistas on the property. Sip a cocktail from the bar itself, an ocean-facing love seat or from the comfort of a hammock suspended over the water.

4

Multiple Resorts in One

If you have exhausted all the dining and activity options at Sandals Montego Bay, take advantage of a free shuttle to Sandals Inn and Sandals Royal Caribbean, where activities and dining are included in the program for guests of all three resorts.

5

Several Dining Options Plus More On The Way

In the evenings, choose from a selection of international cuisines, from wok-seared meals at Tokyo Jo’s to traditional Jamaican favorites at Oleander Room or Italian at Cucina Romana. In addition, there’s also an English Pub, beachfront toes-in-the-sand seafood, jerk shack, pizzeria and a beach grill. The new steakhouse, Butch’s, and Soy for sushi are also in the works.

6

Multiple Wedding Venues at Sandals Montego Bay

Couples choosing to get married at Sandals Montego Bay have a variety of venue options, like an air-conditioned garden chapel and several beachfront and over-water locations throughout the property. An additional over-water chapel is also in the final stages of construction. Bridal parties can take advantage of the full salon services at Red Lane Spa to get ready for the event, or get a massage or body treatment to unwind.

On-Site Tour Booking
